A DARK MILESTONE

Counting the seconds to that dreaded day
Quite unsure about what to feel
Very certain I cannot be gay!
Flush of fright flushes within like a reel

My vision ever kept under lock
Each gaze is swallowed with gloom
Peace is shuttered where shadows flock
And joy lies buried in its tomb

With each deep longing for sight
Amidst the jest served me on a gurney
And every noon looking like night
I dread the painful journey

Yet, I’ll conceal my tears beneath a smile
Some time I hope to beguile
